Advantages of Circle Participants for Offenders
- Circles provide an alternative process to court in which you meet with community members in a safe and respectful environment.
- Community members will support you to remain law-abiding.
- You are invited to bring people to support you to remain law-abiding.
- You are invited to bring people to support you to any and all Circles if you choose.
- You will have the opportunity to help repair the harm done to victim(s) and community.
- You will be an equal partner in all-decision making.
- The Circle process focuses on positive changes rather than punishment.
- You may choose to end your participation in Circles at any time after the Application Circle. If you choose not to participate, your case will be sent back to court.
Responsibilities for Offenders Who Choose Circles
- Admit your guilt in the crime.
- Fill out the Circle Application form and return it within five (5) days.
- Meet with community members for an Application Circle.
- Honor the values and processes of the Circle.
- Be honest and be willing to talk about yourself as any other member of the Circle.
- Meet with the Circle when you say you will. Attend all scheduled court dates.
- Do what you agree to do with the Circle.
- Develop a plan to repair the harm caused by the offense.
